On Vibrating Hammers.

PhD. Transactions of Machine Elements Division . Lund 1978

Abstract:

Different models for vibration hammers intended for use as impact machines are investigated with regard to their dynamic qualities. One-dimensional vibrating systems consisting of one or two masses and linear spring elements as well as systems with fully distributed mass are considered. The hammers are actuated by periodically time varying forces or displacements. Energy transmission at impact is mainly described with a coefficient of restitution but also a reaction force from the penetrated material is used.

Solution of the equations of motion with one impact during one or more periods of excitation are derived and their characteristics examined. The stability of these periodic solutions are for the lumped mass systems determined with a perturbation method. Analog and digital computer simulations supplement this analysis. The theoretical results for the distributed mass systems are verified by experiment.
