On the Design of Internal Involute Helical Gears.

PhD. Transactions of Machine Elements Division Lund 1995

Abstract:

Internal involute helical gears are the subject of this work. The geometry of the gears, including tip relief, is described and diagrams on how the gears must be modified in order to avoid interference and other problems are given. The load distribution was calculated for a tip reliefed gear and for a gear after a running-in period. Based on this load distribution, the maximum contact pressure and the maximum fillet stresses were also calculated.

An experiment was carried out where the strains at the fillet surface were measured and compared with the calculated strains. This showed that the theory and the reality were in good accordance with each other.
